ABOUT US

At Lead By Example & Reverse the Trend, we are committed to shaping the future of young individuals in disadvantaged communities. Founded on the belief that real life experiences can inspire change, our organization was born out of a vision to reduce the rates of youth incarceration and create a path towards a positive and assertive adulthood.

Our mentors, with their personal experiences of overcoming adversity, provide invaluable guidance, fostering communication and social skills that empower the youth to realize their full potential. From a prison-based mentoring program to a community beacon of hope, we have evolved into a force for constructive change, impacting lives and reversing the trend of negativity.

Lead by Example & Reverse the Trend, offers a unique mentoring program that utilizes the experiences of former inmates to guide at-risk youth. The mentors, who have real-life experience with the issues facing young people in disadvantaged communities, work to prevent truancy, drugs, violence, and bullying. They also provide support during crises, intervening to prevent trouble and promote reconciliation.

OUR MISSION

Lead By Example & Reverse The Trend

is a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth development and public safety.

Our “Credible Messengers” mentor justice-impacted youth across the five boroughs of New York City, providing structured support that fosters teamwork and self-sufficiency.

We aim to cultivate future community leaders by educating, inspiring, and empowering young people with positive alternatives to gang involvement and criminal behavior. Our goal is to equip participants with the mindset and tools needed to become part of the solution not the problem.

What We Do & Why It Matters

Many of our participants come from communities where trust in institutions is low and opportunities for civic involvement are limited. By encouraging them to engage directly with their communities, we help rebuild that trust—and empower them to become part of the solution. Community engagement in more than volunteering. It 's leadership in action. It’s about showing up, speaking out, and giving back.

Community Service Projects
Participants engage in meaningful service projects that address real needs in their neighborhoods—such as neighborhood cleanups, food drives, clothing donations and youth mentorship. These projects allow our members to take pride in their communities and see the tangible results of their efforts.

Civic Education & Involvement

We offer workshops and sessions on topics like voting rights, community organizing, and advocacy. Participants learn how local government works and how their voices can make a difference. From attending town halls to joining neighborhood boards, we guide them in becoming active participants in civic life.

Partnerships with Local Organizations

LBERTT collaborates with schools, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and city agencies to maximize our outreach and impact. These partnerships provide our participants with more opportunities to serve and network with community leaders.
